The dirty lyrics come out after 11pm at the chantey sings, as mentioned earlier, but under no circumstances is "nigger" sung. Offensive by any standard. On the issue of historical accuracy and public performance, isn't it historically accurate to just not sing the verse(s) with that word in them, and sing other verses instead? Every chanteyman picked his verses, had different versions, and made many versions up on the spot. As the saying goes: "Different ships, different long splices."
