Slight thread creep warning!

A buddy of mine (who I haven't seen for several years) was trying to learn the following phrases in as many languages as he could. Since we were involved in a world-wide (albeit uncommon) sport, he often had opportunity to learn odd languages for his phrases.

"I do not speak [the name of the language]. Do you speak English?"

"May I have some tea?"

"May I have some bread?"

"May I have some french fries?" ("chips" of course, for our friends across the Water)

and a few other useful phrases I don't recall off the top of my head (among them, probably "Hello" and "Goodbye". In addition, for reasons that have to do with rather long, humorous stories, he also was learning the following phrases:

"The bald man will pay the bill."

"Kiss me quick! I'm double-parked."

and a third oddball one which is completely escaping me at the moment.

Last I heard, he had all/most of them in about seventy different languages. One interesting story was that someone from somewhere in Africa told him that there was no word for "double-parked" in his language. The African finally came up with (something along the lines of) "My camel is tied up illegally" for the "double-parked" line.

*laughing delightedly*
