Thread Name: Abram Morris Dancers 30th year
Subject: Abram Morris Dancers 30th year
Many of you will be familiar with the Abram Morris Dance - many, indeed, will claim to have danced it. Was there a maypole involved? No? - then you haven't seen or danced it. To see the real thing, you need to get to Abram (Wigan) this Saturday, 29th June, when the Abram Morris Dancers celebrate their 30th year dancing at about 20 places around Abram and surrounding districts. We don't do festivals/dance weekends and such - just the traditional local dance event. Which is why you haven't seen us. And why you haven't seen the dance properly.
First dance is at the Morris Dancers' Ground, in Park Lane, at 11am. I believe this is the only piece of land in England specifically dedicated to the local dance - unless anybody can show me another. Then we go walkabout, finishing at the Community Centre at about 8pm for a Lancashire Night with the inimitable Sid Calderbank (recovering from his recent heart attack - you can't keep the bugger down!), plus contributions of songs and clog dancing from some of the Abram team. You might still be able to get tickets....
See you all there, no doubt. John Kelly.
