Tracks on the FRoots cover mount CDs are chosen by the editor and no cash changes hands. They have now moved from CD to download.

The CDs that come with R2 (Rock 'n' Reel) are an example of the sort where artists buy their way on. Having said that, it's still a free CD of new music for the customers. Not sure about Sonlines and maverick. As Reinhard says, others (eg Mojo, Uncut) tend to recycle existing recordings...

Are we touting for a June Tabor tribute here by any chance? I'm still waiting for "June Tabor sings The Marble Index". Wouldn't that be good?
