Very tiresome when an intelligent person defends a piece of ignorance by denouncing a fact as too obscure or alien to be expected to know.

You'd think anyone adopting an acronym would check if it had previously been used, surely? I know 1987 was a bit too early to google it, but can there have been no-one around who had heard of this one's previous incarnation?
