Seriously! "All Things Considered" on APR just ran a segment on Yiddish folk music. The reporter explained, with an appropriate hint of teenaged awe, that one song was "so old that it goes back one hundred years!"

That kind of reckoning would make "Alexander's Ragtime Band" a folk classic!

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

(On second thought, I can recall when Civil War songs were a hundred years old. At the time, that seemed really, really old ....)
