When I was 49 my daughter married. It was July and hot and in southern California and my hair bleached platinum; that whole last week while my daughter was putting in her last days at work I went everywhere by bus.

I had never seen so many youngsters pop up and offer me their seats. Like you, Michael, I was somewhat nonplussed but it was easier and faster just to accept the proffered seat. I was somewhat amazed too; it had never occurred to me that California surfers and boarders and kayakers would be so polite to their elders. Nowadays I'm often grateful for a seat. :)
