I was thinking about this recently - how far/near is a hundred years.
When I was young realising that my grandparents were born in the 'last century' seemed so far away. Now, only a little hop more than to the 40s & 50s when I grew up.
We used to go to a dance club with a caller - Reg Holmes (who recently died in his 90s). When he was starting to call he got some dances from a local caller who used to call for dances in the Servants hall of big houses at the turn of the century. I jotted one down and call it, regret that I didn't get the name of the caller, but by the time I asked he couldn't find it. So one of the dances I call goes back over 100 years with a chain of 3 links.
