The "disable" terminology is generally used with respect to add-ons used with a browser. A somewhat dated (possibly obsolete) Wikipedia article on Real Player indicates some features use Internet Explorer functions, so you might be able to enable/disable it in IE. [Look at Tools|Manage Add-ons in IE]. Whether you can do the same in other browsers is ... ?????
Windows Control Panel generally offers only uninstall.
The same Wiki article does say that Real Player "has been mostly supplanted by Flash" but I don't know how much credence to give that opinion. Some of the premium/paid versions of RP may have capabilities you'd want to keep, but a free version should be easily replaceable if you change your mind.
According to some "white hats" Flash is no longer "the most mediocre program available," since Java took over the top postition when Oracle took Java away from Sun - but that's sort of a thread drift. ...
