The Windows media player on this newer old laptop of mine wouldn't play DVDs and stated that it couldn't. The computer shop had already recommended VLC media player, a free download so I obtained that and used it ever since. I did have Real player on the previous laptop.
I haven't had any problem since the Flash update (except its declaration time and again that it needs updating). I have 11.7.700.224.
Have watched Tour de France clips no prob but don't know how they work. ie what is actually playing them.
