Thread Name: songs about RMS Princess Victoria sinking
Subject: RE: songs about RMS Princess Victoria sinking
40 years ago I sailed on a Bibby Line ship, the MV Berkshire, a car/bulk carrier, as electrician. One of the junior engineers was a lad called Gilbert Locke. His dad was the Chief Engineer on the Princess Victoria. The awful thing about it was that Gil never knew his dad as the ship was lost 6 weeks before he was born. Even more sad was the fact that his dad was just doing the one trip as a stand in for a friend. I never saw Gil again after that trip but that was normal in the MN, best of mates when you're on board and ashore but then you never see each other again.
I've never heard any songs about the Vicky but there is a pipe tune called 'Lament for the Princess Victoria'.
If you search the web for MV Princess Victoria there's lots of info about the disaster.
