I'd try the Win XP version. If it doesn't work, try reinstalling it with settings for XP compatibility. Win 7 and Win 8 are far more flexible than Vista. One thing will knock you dead, for sure: if your peripheral is 32-bit and your operating system is 64-bit, you're most likely dead in the water.
