The recording by Al Bowlly brought back memories. My grandmother had that recording, and several he made with Ray Noble's orchestra.
Ray Noble moved to the States, with Al Bowlly and a couple of his English band members. He was a fixture in the Rainbow Room in New York; I remember hearing broadcasts from there on the radio.
The Rainbow Room, high up in Rockefeller Plaza, has been declared a New York landmark. It is possible that it may re-open sometime.
