Thread Name: The Fleece, Addingham
Subject: RE: The Fleece, Addingham
EE I Yep I remember the Fleece at Addingham, used to call in there on a Sunday night on me way back from Potholing in the dales and on some nights in the summer I used to kip on the riverbank afterwards and walk into Ilkley in the morning and catch the first bus back to Shipley and go straight to work.
I remember a local teacher used to come and sing and every so often he'd bring along his 2 young lads and they'd get up and sing with him, they grew up and became the Famous Hall Brothers.
After David (the landlord) left the Fleece he continued to live in the village and became the local councilor for Addingham and surrounding area and he was deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford for a term.
Used to see him regularly at Otley festival, but not seen him around for awhile so not sure if he's still alive. The other David died several years back.
I remember Fredie Truman coming one night to collect the procceds of the pottie collection (a pottie was always passed around for a charity collection) and told us all a number of funny cricketing stories.
Troutweaver you mention Haworth, yes there's a Fleece there half way up the main street and in the 1980's when I lived there, there used to be regular music nights there ( I think it was a Wedsnesday ) both upstairs in the pool room and downstairs in the side room, not as popular as the one in Addingham but very entertaining.
A number of times a group of us would turn up and take other the side room and sing and play music all night and then at chucking out time we'd then continue back home along with the bar staff and landlord and landlady along with several jugs of Timmy Taylor's Landlord or Ram Tam

EEE Those were the days my friend
