Ed... Sobeys will tell you unless the guy really doesn't know (read, new guy). My fish guy at Sobeys tells me when things were delivered, where they came from, and can usually tell me fairly accurately when they were caught. "My guy" is the manager and he does the ordering. Each Sobeys manager does the ordering and fish, meat and produce managers also do most of the local sourcing. When my fish guy finds a deal on something and he knows it will sell, he orders a whack of it. He even tells me when stuff is coming on sale. Like jack smelts (round smelts).The scallop pieces are cull so ya gotta look em over fer size and note any freezer burn. Since Sobeys keeps a tight watch on temp (-19C maximum), I am confident of quality.

Oh, yeah. The lobster and clams are, fer me, best from Shediac Bay but I have told that story way too many times.
