I like my Canon MP250 printer/scanner/copier because it costs less than an inkjet cartridge and it comes with two cartridges. When the ink runs out I just buy a new printer.

True, it sometimes lies about being out of ink, as described in the original post. But I solve that by either:
a. pressing the Stop/Reset button and holding it for ten seconds, or
b. taking the cartridges out and putting them back in again
