McGrath: English has all kinds of oddities about what you can say, and also about what you shouldn't say. So you can say "Yorkshireman" or "Lancashireman", but you can't say "Irelandman".

I've actually never heard the term "Lancashireman" used, despite spending my formative years in Yorkshire very close to the Lancashire border. Yes, it was "Yorkshireman" or "Yorkshirewoman" but always the gender-neutral "Lancastrian" when referring to "them ovver theear"!
