Some of those comments are pretty good. Can't say I agree in the least with St Jerome's comments on marriage, however. ;-) Nor do I agree with the "black and white" statement from Ignatius. That's just absolutely silly.
For a good grasp of practical and common sense spirituality, I recommend:
"The Tao of Pooh" - Benjamin Hoff
"The Te of Piglet" - Benjamin Hoff
"A Return to Love" - Marianne Williamson
"Beyond the Cascade" - Amos H. Jessup
"Joan of Arc" - Mark Twain
"Saint Joan" - George Bernard Shaw
"The Tao of Health, Sex, and Longevity" (can't recall the author)
As well as most of what is attributed to Jesus' direct teachings in the Bible...
"The Prophet" - Khalil Gibhran
Any buddhist texts.
Spiritual writings by a number of Indian masters in the Vedic tradition, such as Sri Aurobindo, for example.
"The Power of Now" - Eckhart Tolle
And any number of other great books along the same general line.
Anything that increases the sense of freedom and love while also increasing the sense of a powerful moral responsibility toward self, others, and life in general can definitely be considered spiritual.
