Thread Name: Throwing litter from a moving vehicle
Subject: RE: Throwing litter from a moving vehicle
Not wishing to sound like Grumpy Methuselah, but when I was a child, things weren't wrapped in plastic, we didn't drink bottled water, eat takeaway food in cartons, have canned drinks, or even many sweets (still 'on the Ration'). We didn't chew gum either. So it was very unusual to see litter lying around. There were scaffies (street sweepers) but they seemed to be mostly concerned with dead leaves. Any sweet wrappers we did manage to get our hands on were smoothed out and treasured in a shoe box. I well remember being delighted with the shiny, silvery colours of those wrappers and the 'see through' ones in red, blue and green. And food in general wasn't wrapped in anything much, maybe a sheet of newspaper for fish or a conical blue paper bag for sugar. Drinks like Tizer were in glass refundable bottles. Dustbins were full of ash from fires and nothing much else. Happy days! (And Happy Planet!)
