In the northwest of Portugal, in the Tras-os-Montes area, they have a stick dance tradition in just 11 village. The dancers are called Pauliteiros and if you try this word in YouTube you will find lots of examples. Their dances are similar to stick dances throughout northern Spain, with 2 short sticks. The most spectacular figure of the Portuguese Pauliteiros is "Assalto do Castelo" ("Attack on the Castle"). Check it out.

The Gloucestershire Morris Men, of whom I am a member, were delighted to be in a concert in Spain this summer with a Pauliteiros group from Sendim. The group in the picture appear to be from the town of Miranda do Douro, right against the Spanish border.
