1914 Munster Final

As the Banner county hurlers steamed away to Thurles
You have seldom seen a finer lot of men,
And they passing every station, there was joy and animation,
To see Clare or Cork was going to win.

The Banner county hurlers reached the town of Thurles,
The cheers they were vibrating to the skt,
The final ultimatum was 'Up Clare, and at 'em,
Bring the Munster championship or die'

When the starting whistle sounded, oh, the ball was quickly grounded,
The hurlers gathered round it they rallied and they reeled,
You have seldom seen such slashin' and scores of hurleys smashin',
No one could bet a tanner on the field.

Now those fiery teams were prancing, on each others goals advancing,
Camans brightly glancing in the air,
No Melesian nor Dalcassian, ever done such slashin'
As the hurlin' boys from Cork and county Clare.

At last the game was ended, oh, it was nobly defended,
And the referee attended with ability and care,
When he shouted out the score it was number three to four,
And he gave a bunch of palm to county Clare.

When Clare became victorious, oh, sure 'twas something glorious,
To see the gallant followers as they cheered them up and down,
And all the pretty girls took their hats off from their curls,
And they cheered them to the station of the town.

They then bid goodbye to the cailins on the sly,
People say they hugged them here and hugged them there
They shook hands with their opponents, oh, the spirited Corkonians,
And they steamed it once again for county Clare.

Now they're back in county Clare there's music everywhere,
The boys are full of frolic and of fun,
The Banner county bred them, and Maria Reddin fed them,
And Amby Powell led like a father with his son,
He eld the gallant hurlers all the way to Thurles,
And the Munster Championship they won.
