I have assumed the string bass chair in Skip Henderson and the Starboard Watch here in Oakland CA, and Skip has been singing it in an intermittently incomprehensible way at the regular Thursday night outing (twenty-some years and counting). To sing a Calypso without the accent is perhaps as offensive as singing it with, if one does not habitually speak so.
