Same as Keith. Went to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Had a great time but stayed mainly in resort. The people are very friendly in the main but beware of traders. They are not particularly bad, but do see tourists as easy money. Be prepared to bargain and have some serious hard sell but do remember it is quite a poor country and they do have to make a living!
