Even in black and white, it really was quite terrifying for innocent children in those days; we were accustomed to Bill and Ben and Andy Pandy etc. I hated the sound of the Tardis firing up. And Doctor Who's face on the screen in a blaze of light. Along with Quatermass And The Pit, it was one of the traumatising events of our young lives!
