Sonnet 04/11/07                                  MLXVI

In midnight dream her bright smile haunts me still,
Though daylight shows no trace. Can dream survive
The ghost of heart's desire? Her words yet fill
Corners of mind: Can ghost future revive?
I'll not forget the dreams she gave, nor lose
Vision given: Can I heart's light recall
Without thinking of her? Soul does not choose
To forget: Loss of past would cost me all.
Yet, heart has not hold upon muse: She gives
What she might, and no more. Should I now plead
For what she does not wish? Only dream lives
Future desired: Hope does not fill my need.
Even ghost gives me reason to rejoice:
Heart does not allow any other choice.
