I intended an ode
But it turned to a sonnet
It began à la mode
I intended an ode
But Rose crossed the road
In her latest new bonnet
I intended an ode
But it turned to a sonnet

by Henry Austin Dobson. b. 1840

A perfect example, not of a sonnet, but of a triolet. I once managed a series of folk-themed triolets for Folk Review, & even one villanelle, which is a difficult form -- all this following on from folk limerick & clerihew competitions that Fred set & I won.   But I have never managed a satisfactory sonnet; and am full of envy.

Bravo Bruce.
