Ticks are pretty rare in the west of Scotland these days...we used to call them "sheep ticks" when we were kids and we were always picking them off ourselves.
Most of the sheep have gone now and the ticks seem to have gone with them.......maybe children's habits have changed regarding play, we were out all day exploring the burns and moorland, making "dens" and thatching them with dry grass.
Now weans prefer to get their excitement from video war games. :0(
