"My Own Iona" can be heard on the Library of Congress Jukebox, along with others of these older songs. Interesting to poke through their material.

M, I like to poke the hornets nests from time to time. The responses are amusing.
I am supposedly educated (Ph.D., admittedly not in the byways of song) and find the folk meaning of "scholarly" to be the reverse of the dictionary meanings. Innit it so?

Folklore, of which folk songs are a part, was defined in 1846 as "the traditions, customs and superstitions of the uncultured classes" by William Thoms.
