Guy's new Carter Family site got me thinking about CF songs again---pretty easy to do---and I was reminded that this tune isn't in the DT. I learned it from a recording by Curtis Blackwell and Randall Collins but people for whom I've sung it tell me it's a CF song. Wherever it's from, I hope you enjoy it.- Mark
Somebody's Waiting For Me
In a noisy eastern city sat a lonely lad one night, (G, C)
In a bar room where the wine began to flow, (D, G)
From a table in the corner, the young lad slowly rose, (G, C)
He said "I see it's getting late boys, I must .go." (D, G)
Chorus:
Somebody's waiting for me, (G, C)
Someone who loves me I know, (D, G)
There's a light shining bright in her window tonight, (G, C)
Somebody's waiting for me. (D, G)
I suppose you have a sweetheart his companions jovially said,
If she's pretty we would like to see her too,
If you'll only stop your teasin' I will show her to you boys,
She's the only sweetheart that I ever knew.
(chorus)
From a small brown leather pocketbook a picture he did take,
Of a gray-haired lady with a bowed down head,
She's my mother, she's my sweetheart and she waits for me tonight,
So you see, I told the truth boys when I said...
(chorus)
