Thread Name: Lyr Req: Sassafras Tea
Subject: Sassafras Tea
Found your site through a search for folk music. I am looking for the lyrics for a song I remember from the 60's. It could have been done by the Gas Light Trio, or the Kingston Trio or the Limeliters or, honestly, who knows. I thought the song was called Sassafras Tea. The first verse kind of goes like this:

Way down yonder in the tall grass,
Lived a little girl named Sassafras.
That little bit of tea
Took the heart out of me,
And that cup of tea was Sassafras.

Hope you can help. It was a great song and I named my new wife Sassafras a few years ago when we first started dating. She is an artist and signs her work Sassafras and in fact this is the only name many people know her by. Of course, we are asked how she got the name and I would love to complete the story. I would also love for her to hear the song. I can play the guitar so even the words would be a help.

Sincerely
