As noted earlier, homophobia is not a phobia, in the same sense as emotional disturbances as the general term "phobia" tends to be.However, it does tend to be an irrational attitude, including a "fear" of gay people.

Oddly enough while homophobia was never listed as a mental disorder, homosexuality was listed as such in many locals until the mid 70's.
