I left the UK in 1972 and emigrated to Australia. Over the years I've hankered after the old Folk scen in England. However, since reading this, and other threads of this ilk, I don't think I do anymore.

Funnily enough, Mudcat is much less full of the "vindictive mud-slinging and name calling" than it was five or even three years ago. Many enthusiasts that I know were driven away from Mudcat and on to places where there is much more sensible, insult-free discussion such as Folk 21 on Facebook by the attitudes that prevailed here.
There does remain on Mudcat, however, a hard-core of contributors whose determined point-scoring and unwillingness to listen to reasoned discussion often backed up with insults makes for a feeling of unpleasantness. You might think that they are doing irreparable harm to the British folk scene with these attitudes, but in fact they are a tiny and largely ignored minority in the what is overall a very friendly and supportive scene.
