Subject: RE: OBIT: Jesse Winchester
A friend of mine just sent me this email with a Jesse Winchester story I remember---when he played the Frostbite Music Festival (of which I was artistic director at the time) in the early 1980's.

"this is a story I remember, maybe not quite accurately, from-1982? Jesse Winchester had come up to Whitehorse, I think to play at Frostbite? He was very kind to T (daughter), and she still has a note he wrote to her from back then, when she was 8. I remember chauffeuring him around Whitehorse. At the end of the visit, either you or I said to him that it was too bad he didn't get a chance to see more of the Yukon, maybe go down to Carcross or something. He replied, "it's ok, really. You know, I hate scenery."

His songs are picturesque....but more at a visceral level than at a visually descriptive level.
