In his song, "The Salt" from his album "The Week Before Easter" there is a verse that goes:

6. He fed me on nothing but "piners."
He said they would make me a man.
Well they damn nearly made me a dead one,
Eaten half raw off the pan.

Does anyone know what "piners" are?
