I visited Hawaii six times during the early 50's while in the Navy. The Royal Hawaiian Hotel at that time was about the largest structure on Waikiki Beach. Ah, the good old days. At the time I had a uke made in occupied Japan that cost me around 700 yen (360 yen to the dollar in those days). We had a great time playing on the beach with frequent trips to Don the Beachombers for a pineapple filled with some kind of rum ~ what a drink. WOW those were the days. I still have the ole uke inscribed with the names of my buddies and all the places where we had been ~
