An Illusion of Islands

Breaking many waters, proudly and dumb
(Until things grow).
Grasses, palms, bugs and pelicans. Then
They become full of sound, seem less proud,
More ready to speak somehow, and listen.

But no saying anything will change it— their attention
Comes back over and over to breaking
Hostile currents and the solid
History of deep groundswell which
Raised them up and never
Leaves.
