Subject: BS: Distance Learning MA British Trad Music
Dear all,

Not directly song related, but hopefully of interest...

At the University of Sheffield we are launching a new MA programme, to be studied by Distance Learning, focusing on the Traditional Music of the British Isles.

The course follows a very successful programme we run on World Music Studies, where people travel from all around the world to share experiences through the week-long residentials with us.

I shall post the link to the department web pages here, and any enquiries should be made to the course director, Andrew Killick (a.killick@shef.ac.uk)as I can't categorically give answers to individual questions. In general though, this is a wonderful opportunity to explore whatever area of British Trad music you are interested in. The work is academic in nature, with fieldwork opportunities - it is not a performance based course, though of course performance can be analysed and written about.

I hope it's of interest to some of you, though I'm sure it will open a can of worms around the legitimacy of studying folk musics - that, I'm afraid, I don't have time to go into in detail here, so I'll make my apologies in advance!

All the very best,
Fay
