I learned it from a Theodore Bikel record way back. Done it a lot, and it always gets a good response from audiences.

Judy Flenniken (now Halas) and I did it as a dialog song in our concert at the Seattle Center Playhouse in 1963, culminating a couple of courting dialog songs, e.g., "Jennie Jenkins." Judy's response to my "I guess I'll bring my children" verse was,

"I didn't know you had no children,
My dear old Buffalo Chip!!"

Sent the audience into gales of laughter.
