There are so many threads about this one, that is hard to pick out which one is most definitive. (Plus it is possible that I missed someone's giving this info before me) Anyway, here goes. The song was written in 1913 by Ballard MacDonald and Harry Carroll. You can find the sheet music at the Levy Sheet Music Site. Better still, there is a complete real audio recording at The recording is by tenor Walter Van Brunt, recorded for Edison in the same year it was written, 1913.
