This is what I wrote back in the mists of time;

"Eine Hypothese ist eine fundierte Schätzung."

Basically the same.

(I am not fluent in German, especially not grammatically and had assistance writing the German script.)

But as Snail says, I don't have faith in foreign PhDs.....
