Art, Joe, and all you other scholars: Just for those who don't know, 30-06 is pronounced thirty-ought-six, and I think is 30-'06, meaning 30 caliber, l906. The bullet is 30 caliber, but the casing is more like 45, to get more powder behind it for greater muzzle velocity and punch. It's the shell that was used in the Springfield rifles in the First World War and the Garand M-1s in WW2, as well as in BARs (Browning Automatic Rifles), and 30 caliber machine guns in US military use. --seed
