re: Schweinsteiger's name

Well, I've seen it "explained" incorrectly so often in the British media by a verbatim translation of "steigen" or "Steiger". The relevant part, however, is "Steige" or (in Northern Germany) "Stiege". This word is out of use today, but once meant, among other things, a rather small confinement.

The English word "sty" has the same root, of course.

So the name, very simply and rather close to the English language, means "(the man coming from) the swinesty (pigsty)".

PS.: I'm still in disbelief of what they have shown last night. They must have transmitted a different game just to tease us and tomorrow they'll tell us the real result. Brasil 2 Germany 1 was my prediction.
