Thread Name: funding 'The Ballad of Shirley Collins' movie
Subject: RE: The Ballad of Shirley Collins movie
Fair questions, Richard -

On the issue of a time limit, all Kickstarter/most crowdfunding campaigns need to be given an end-date by which the money will be raised (and if you don't meet the target, you don't get the funds) - it's just the way it works. With the benefits of hindsight, a longer campaign may have been good (this one will have run for precisely a month), but unfortunately Kickstarter doesn't permit changes once a campaign has commenced.

As for why it hasn't been raised here - I was startled to find that it hadn't been. It's very regrettable, and if it's vexing for anyone then I and everyone else involved will sincerely apologise.

It has had quite a lot of coverage through specialist music channels (including fRoots, The Wire, etc) as well as through EFDSS, though in general mostly on-line/through social media. Vic has also steadfastly and generously supported the thing through his 'Shirley Collins Appreciation Society' Facebook group.

It appears that the problem for crowdfunding campaigns is that many news outlets don't quite consider them news. They BECOME news if they conclude successfully, but that's cold comfort to us...!

We're doing everything we can to try and secure further coverage in the final furlong... for anyone on here, if you like the idea in question, please do share with fellow travelers, your local folk clubs, etc. There are a couple of great exclusive pledges available for clubs and societies (if I do say so myself!)

I hope this seems coherent, but very happy to answer any further questions.

In general, what do you think of the idea? Any questions or comments about the approach posited by Rob and Tim, as directors?
