Thanks fellas. In fact shortly after I started the thread, I remembered how to recover the drive. You go to Device Manager and delete the driver. Then you rebooot the computer and Windows is supposed to install a new driver.

The only problem is it didn't work, so it's most likely a mechanical fault. Hey ho. How ever did we get along before they invented computers?
