Thread Name: Help: telephones
Subject: RE: Help: telephones
National Public Radio's show "All Things Considered" has an occasional segment called "Lost and Found Sound". One of the first pieces they did was on the telephone, and they had some songs, including the verses to "Hello Ma Baby", as well as the chorus. They have a spot on their website (www.npr.org) within the "All Things Considered" section for Lost and Found Sound. I don't think the program's archived for downloading, but they would probably answer an e-mail to point you in the right direction.
Possibly less useful, a singer named Martin Henry performed a song called "Hello Hawaii" on the 1973 (I think) San Diego Folk festival album. Its about a lovelorn Captain Jinks (dates it there, doesn't it?) hearing about the new wireless telephone and calling his lady love in Hawaii.
For I had to pawn nearly everything I own
To talk from New York on the wireless telephone,
Hello, Hawaii, I love you, goodbye."

I know that Martin Henry was based around San Fransisco in the 1970's, but I can't help any more than that, and unfortunately I haven't got the technology to transfer it through the computer. However, if you PM me, I can mail you a casette.
