I just remember seeing him at Sidmouth Festival some years ago when he did a headline concert in the outdoor arena. I nearly didn't go as there was always a bit of a vogue to laugh at his somewhat OTT TV antics and poke fun at him. Whatever has happened since, he just showed what an amazing performer he could be that night. He had just had a knee arthroscopy so was hobbling about the stage a bit, and couldn't therefore manage "Jake the Peg", but did most of his other "hits". He had a native Australian do the didgeridoo part plus a long solo on "Sun Arise" - that was "hairs on the back of the neck" stuff as it echoed around the whole Sid Valley. It is still one of the most memorable concerts I ever went to at many years of Sidmouth festivals.
So, I'll readily defend him as a performer, but not for one minute for the charges on which he has been convicted.
