Well, the most obvious invention is the name of "Ewan McColl" himself. Jimmy Miller was his real name, McColl his stage name.

What worries me is that this fabulation extends beyond the permissible allegory of political activism into our understanding of the folk heritage. Some aspects of the dark end of satanicism were worked on in those periods, in things like The Wicker Man and some of the work of Benjamin Britten, and these may have twisted the white side of faith as well. It already suffered from the aftermath of Victorian Romanicism in the neo-Gothic, typified by fabulations such as the communal adoption of a jingoistic form of Chivalry which bears little if any relationship even to the norms of the Court of Eleanor of Aquitaine, and which drove the flower of European youth into the trenches of WWI.
