Thread Name: Lyr Req: 'Gentle on My Mind' parody
Subject: Lyr Add: DON'T LEAVE YOUR RECORDS IN THE SUN
John used to be a regular at the Frederick Craft Show here in Maryland. The last time I saw him, he had his son with him, I believe. John was hooked up to FM broadcast style microphones so he had no wires attached to his mike (ala Madonna) or to his fiddle. He came down off the stage and walked into the audience without missing a note. Quite a performer as well as a hell of a musician and songwriter. My old, dated John Hartford song is

"Don't leave your records in the sun,
They'll warp, they won't be good to anyone.
Don't leave your records in the sun,
They'll get all wavy and they just won't run.

CHO:

They just won't play, just won't play,
Just won't play, just won't play,
Just won't play, no more.

I bought a record just the other day,
It was the last one they had in the store.
I left it sitting on the back seat shelf,
And now it just won't play no more. CHO:

Still makes me smile and remember a few records I warped. The last one was a copy of Van Morrison's album on Bang Records.
