Coming from the south avoid the M1 between Leicester area and M18.

Suggest the A46, A1, A1(M), A64.

We have an avoiding route learned over many years from the A1079 junction on the A64 but I do it on auto pilot so could not be sure what it looks like on a map. It always takes about twenty minutes longer than the conventional trip would take on a good day.

Just be patient is all I can advise.
