The best book that I have read on John Henry was published much more recently in 2006 by Oxford University Press:
Steel Drivin' Man - John Henry - The untold story of an American Legend written by Scott Reynolds Nelson.
Great detective work which would appear to have uncovered the person who was John Henry.
